Basic setup
- Use stereo headphones if the recording depends on separate tones for each ear.
- Start at a comfortable, moderate volume; louder is not inherently more effective.
- Choose a safe setting where reduced environmental awareness is not a hazard.
- Follow the recording's instructions rather than combining multiple tracks at once.
During a session
If your purpose is focus, start the work rather than monitoring every sensation. If the sound becomes irritating, fatiguing or distracting, stop or switch to a simpler background sound.
Evaluate the outcome
For productivity uses, track a practical measure such as completed work. For relaxation, judge whether the routine feels useful without turning a subjective response into a claim about EEG entrainment.
Safety note
Do not use audio in a way that masks important environmental cues while driving, cycling or operating equipment. See our safety guide for additional common-sense considerations.
