What alpha means
Alpha commonly refers to oscillatory EEG activity around the high single-digit to low-teens range, although definitions vary across research contexts.
Common associations
Alpha activity is often discussed in relation to eyes-closed rest, attention and inhibitory processes. These associations are context-dependent; alpha power can increase or decrease depending on the task and where it is measured.
Alpha-targeted audio
A recording labeled “alpha” typically means its rhythmic modulation or advertised beat frequency falls in an alpha-like range. That label does not guarantee that a listener's EEG will shift into a uniform alpha state.
